PHONOGRAPH CERAMIC AND CRYSTAL CARTRIDGES
One way or another, you can almost certainly determine which cartridge is needed by using the charts below. The charts are for your reference only. Many replacements are not in production and are no longer in stock. Keep in mind it will take a few minutes to load this file, you are welcome to print it out for future reference. Remember that it is NOT vital that the replacement be an exact, look alike duplicate of what was in the machine (of course, if you wish to obtain a new cartridge from us, we will need to match exactly to your cartridge model number).
If we do not have an exact match to your cartridge model number, you would need to send us your cartridge for identification and at no cost we will check your cartridge to make sure it is operable or you may just need a new needle, or we can determine a possible substitute replacement cartridge if necessary. In some instances we are able to repair a defective cartridge. Charge for this is $10.00.
Set makers sometimes changed the original cartridge used in the middle of a production model run. Some Servicemen would install a suitable replacement which may not duplicate what was originally used. (This can throw us off when trying to determine a replacement). What is important is that the pickup selected have the correct ELECTRONIC characteristics (signal strength and range-output voltage should be equal to or may be higher than current cartridge), operate at comparable tonearm pressure, and fit in the tonearm. EXCEPT for ALL flat silver crystal cartridges " such as the ones used by the early bakelite RCA 45rpm Record Players, these are priced at $45.00 each,(NONE IN STOCK AT THE MOMENT). These are located on charts 4 & 5, AND the ZENITH COBRAMATIC as seen on Chart 11, pictures L16,17, & 18, which are priced at $24.95 each. There are a few other cartridges that are in the $40-$50 range, but they are seldom requested.
IF YOU NEED A CARTRIDGE EQUIPPED WITH WITH A 78RPM SIZE TIP Needle. PLEASE INDICATE this when emailing us. There is an additional charge of $3.00 for w/78rpm option.
Please note: The cartridges listed are no longer in production. Many cartridges are no longer in stock and we are running out of many major replacements such as GE, Magnavox, etc. We can possibly provide a sub if you send us your old cartridge. It is sometimes possible for us to repair your original cartridge. ( $10.00 charge). Please e-mail us regarding availability and price regarding any cartridge on the chart you may need that is not on our website . We are always acquiring new old stock but in many instances the most popular cartridges are already gone from the batches we receive.
If you have questions regarding a crystal or ceramic cartridge replacement, it is best to email us with Brand and Model Number of the record player and any info on the body of the cartridge. You are also welcome to send us a .jpg picture if you have a digital camera. Research can be involved and take too long for the telephone.
